Welcome to 'De Loods'

De Loods De Nekker vzw is a workshop in Mechelen where people with disabilities work alongside their support staff on circular recycling projects. They give used materials from hospitals – such as sterilisation cloths, plastic trays and other high-quality plastics – a new lease of life.

The focus here is on meaningful daytime activities that have a positive impact on society.

Participants work in a safe, respectful environment on simple, meaningful tasks that contribute to a more sustainable world.

In this way, every action, however small, becomes a step towards greater connectedness, dignity and circularity.

Sustainable Projects

In September, we were honoured by the City of Mechelen as 'sustainability heroes' with the following description:

"De Loods De Nekker is committed to the environment and to people. They aim for 100 per cent recycling, turning plastic materials (polypropylene, polystyrene and PVC) back into usable raw materials. They do this by carrying out various small mechanical tasks, such as removing stickers, cutting off pieces, removing wheels, etc. The work is mainly carried out by clients of care institutions. In this way, a meaningful daily activity is provided for these people."

Roche Trays

The pipette trays are being prepared for recycling.

Upcycling sterilisation cloths

Sterilisation drapes from the operating room are processed so that they can be used as raw materials in the manufacturing industry.

Dismantling PVC materials

PVC materials from Vinyl Plus are recycled to promote the circularity of the materials.

Clearing up litter

Once a month, the group goes out to make the streets of Mechelen a bit cleaner.
